Bluetooth World brought together some of the biggest names in the industry for two packed days of programming. These speakers shared insights on how Bluetooth® Smart technology is making the Internet of Things a practical reality for billions of people by efficiently connecting everything from the novel to the life saving and everything in between.

Mark Murphy, director, low energy connectivity & VoIP, for Dialog Semiconductor spoke on the role of Bluetooth Smart in the Internet of Things. Below is his speaker interview from the show. How do you see the wearable product market developing over the next twelve months?

More and more products will move towards Bluetooth Smart. Key factors driving this move are the strong ecosystem around it—for example, Bluetooth Smart is now supported by Apple, Android and Windows. Key trade-offs in products will be energy usage versus functionality, and here a lot of critical decisions need to be made by end equipment makers.

As manufacturing processes continue to evolve, what further improvements can you predict in the development of Bluetooth Smart?

The main improvement I see is sensors will become more integrated in products.

How does the Internet of Things (IoT) industry need to collaborate to ensure evolution?

Data acquisition needs to be standardized across the full ecosystem and take IPV6 into account.

What are you most looking forward to with regard to the Bluetooth World conference?

Meeting new customer and partners, and learning about new upcoming applications that will be enabled by Bluetooth Smart. It will also be great to explain how Dialog is innovating in the Bluetooth Smart space.
