It happens to the best of us. To prepare for a beach day, you apply sunscreen like a champ, but at the end of the day you still find yourself a little on the pink side. Sound familiar?
No worries. If French company Spinali Design has any say in the matter, sunburn may soon be a thing of the past—and they can thank Bluetooth® technology for it, too. A small, waterproof UV sensor attached to one- and two-piece suits can actually detect when your tipping point has arrived before you’re at risk for sunburn. Using Bluetooth technology, the sensor sends a notification to your smartphone that your time in the sun is up—or that it’s time to re-apply that sunscreen. To personalize the experience, users fill out a personalized profile beforehand to set up their skin type and tanning preferences.
While the swimsuits are currently female-only, men won’t be left in the, uh, shade. By setting up a special “Valentine’s” function, men can receive a notification telling them it’s time to roll up their proverbial sleeves and slather that sunscreen on their special female friend. Spinali also offers a sensor-equipped beach towel, with a children’s version—equipped with a GPS—in the works, helping parents quickly find their beach-wandering children.
The swimsuits retail starting at $167, which includes a tailored suit, sensor, and app.
