Personal Navigation Devices (PND) are portable devices specifically built to run Road Navigation applications. BlueSoleil has been integrated in many popular product in PND market.

Replacing built-in SIM card communication modules with Bluetooth to enable PNDs to connect with mobile phones, according to industry sources, reduces cost while allows end users to take advantage of existing mobile service. It helps the industry defend market share erosion from smart phones with navigation features.

The following Bluetooth profiles is strongly recommended being included in PNDs:

Hands-Free Profile (HFP) to either make a hands-free phone call or answer a phone call

Dial-up Networking (DUN) Profile to establish an Internet connection

Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) to obtain contacts from a phone book on a mobile phone

Message Access Profile (MAP) to obtain SMS from both inbox and outbox on a mobile phone

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) to output audio streamed from audio source device

Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) to control the playback of audio streamed on audio source device

In spite of audio and hands-free calling functionality, PNDs also include data communicaiton applications, so that SPP, FTP, OPP and other profiles are also offered.
